From Playing Small to ... ?
Four Queens - Forgotten Women of France
I’m writing this to take my mind off of what I’m waiting for:
the final edit of the video of my musical-in-progress that will be broadcast to hundreds of people on March 12.
This is not a reading to a room of 20, 50, even 100 supportive souls. I’ve done a ton of those.
This is going out to 106 chapters of the Alliances Françaises US.
It is a fabulous opportunity to get FOUR QUEENS - about four sisters from medieval Provence who all become queens - out into the world.
AF USA is presenting a 40-minute pre-recorded excerpt as part of their monthly cultural Zooms - this one celebrating International Womens’ Day.
They’ll also play the anthem for UN Women I conceived, co-wrote and co-produced.
Wee teaser video from Four Queens here.
For the last six weeks, getting this video recording ready has consumed me. Condensing the script, finding the actors, recording it, transforming a play into a shooting script, overseeing the editing.
8 to 10 hours a day, 7 days a week.
I want so badly to get these womens’ stories “right,” to give them the value history has largely denied them. To let the actors and the piece shine.
To let their stories inspire others. Maybe you, too?
It’s been a mountain of work, and if I’m honest? I’m nervous.
I keep saying I want to stop playing small. That 2026 is the year for Breaking Big. Even writing those words feels so arrogant, hubristic, tempting fate…
Now that I’ve entered the woo-woo vein - we’re doing this while Mercury is in Retrograde. 🌀 A recipe for tech glitches and miscommunication.
Years ago, I moved hell-and-high-water to sign a purchase agreement on a house the day before Mercury started going backwards. No one knew why I was being such a pain in the tuchus. But all went super well. Zero regrets about being a pain.
I was starting to freak a bit about this planetary recipe for disaster - until Lori Lothian gave me a new perspective: these six weeks are also a time to go back and redo, to get something right.
It is also a magical portal for synchronicity.
As I write that phrase - poof! The nervousness abates…excitement kicks in.
So I’m finally feeling bold:
I NEED YOU THERE.
Your supportive energy, your smiling faces. To celebrate women’s sometimes-overlooked & often underestimated power.
Will you step through this portal to the past with me?
Sign up here. Choose “Complimentary for friends” and it’s free.
Thursday, March 12
4pm ET (8pm UK/9pm France)
(they’ll be in Daylight Savings Time then but Europe won’t be)
If you can’t be there - it will live on the AFUSA’s YouTube channel.
PLEASE share with others who might be interested.
PLEASE drop me a comment - about you and Mercury or just a smile emoji (do they have those on Substack?)

Well, I, for one, am so proud of your having gone big and I know this is going to be the success you've worked so hard and long for. This is an incredible achievement, Beth! That retrograding Mercury be damned. love, Susan
